The Role of the Funeral Director
Funeral Directors attend to all the legal requirements involved in the removal and transportation of the body, its sanitation and presentation as well as registration of the death. They make all the funeral arrangements with you and ensure proper procedures are followed.
Usually the funeral director arranges all the services required for the service such as celebrant, press notices, organist, florist, casket, gravesite, headstone/plaque, etc. If the family wish, they may request a celebrant who is known to them.
Most funeral homes have their own chapels as well as refreshment lounges on site that provide refreshments after the service and the opportunity for mourners to mingle and share memories. Some funeral homes have their own on-site crematoria.
The main cemeteries in Auckland have chapels that may be used for cremation or burial services while churches and places such as the RSA, bowling club or a home may be suitable venues.
